Ramiro Gonzales faces execution in Texas for the third time, paying with his life for the kidnapping, rape and murder of Bridget Townsend.
Ramiro Félix Gonzales, 41, was informed that his execution is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2024 in Huntsville, Texas.
The two previous times Gonzales was set to be executed in 2021 and 2022, it was halted at the last minute.

Will Ramiro Gonzales’ execution go forward?

Now, Ramiro Gonzales waits in his cell at the Polunsky Unit, home to death row inmates, for his new execution date.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) received authorization from a judge to proceed without further delays.
Gonzales avoided execution previously because his lawyers appealed the sentence.
Bridget Townsend, 18, was kidnapped, raped and murdered in a rural area of Bandera County, Texas. Later, Ramiro Gonzales confessed to the crime.

Now the big question is whether Ramiro Gonzales’ third execution date will be his last after years of postponements.
Bridget Townsend, disappeared in Hondo in 2001, and the case was a real mystery to the authorities.
On the afternoon of January 14, 2011, she went to her boyfriend’s house, who was a known drug dealer.
When Bridget Townsend’s boyfriend returned home, he noticed that her purse was there, but her wallet was missing and there was no sign of her.

Joe, the boyfriend of Bridget Townsend, was also a friend of Ramiro Gonzales, who had arranged to go to his house that same day.
When Bridget disappeared, Joe called Ramiro Gonzales. He asked if he had been to his house and if he had seen Townsend when he was there.
However, Ramiro Gonzales told Joe that he hadn’t had time because he was busy doing other things, so he knew nothing.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) opened an investigation into Bridget Townsend’s disappearance.
Ramiro Gonzales confessed to police

Ramiro Gonzales was detained in the Bandera County jail in 2003, about to go to trial for sexual assault.
Bandera County is north of Medina County, and both are west of the San Antonio metropolitan area.
One afternoon, Gonzales asked to speak with an officer from the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
He confessed that he knew where Bridget Townsend’s body was.

The BCSO detective asked Gonzales how he knew where to find the body. Gonzalez responded, «Because I killed her.»
The officer asked why he was confessing to that brutal crime, and he simply replied that he wanted to «do the right thing.»
After confessing to the kidnapping, rape and shooting of Bridget Townsend, Gonzales offered to take the officers to where the body was.
Ramiro Gonzales was tried and convicted in 2006 for the murder of Bridget Townsend and has since been awaiting the death penalty.
